Rolled Thread & Cut Thread
There are two common methods to produce the external threads on fasteners:rolled thread and cut thread.Let’s take a look at the main differences between rolled thread and cut thread.
Rolled Thread
Rolled threads are formed by hardened round steel dies or steel flat plates to form threads. Roll threading is a kind of cold forming process, the fastener is under high pressure, the steel grain flows in multiple directions. Thread rolling is the best method for the manufacture of high volume fasteners.
Cut Thread
Cut threads are formed by a method of cutting away material from the solid metal bar. This is usually done by using a threading tool , a single point tool or a machine tools, such as CNC lathes. Thread Cutting is the best method for higher grade, stronger, and harder metals that feature higher tensile strengh and yield strengh.
